Hamingja Bowl

As you may know, some inanimate objects seem to be able to hold the life energy of people previously affiliated with the object. Residual Hamingja that has soaked into the item through prolonged exposure to the person often causes this. You can take advantage of this behavior.

When you have built up your Hamingja as strongly as it gets, you may want to place a store of it elsewhere to save for a rainy day, so to speak. You can do this and then tap into the reserve when things have been tough and you could use a quick recharge. It is also a way to make a gift of energy and luck that you can give to someone else.

Get a Bowl

The first step is to get a proper bowl. Bowls work well for keeping and delivering life energy because of the psychological symbolism of the uterus. You will want a bowl that you will only use for this purpose.

Your bowl should be a natural material such as stone or wood. If stone, make sure it is all natural and not contaminated with something unpleasant like radioactive or toxic materials. If wood, use a strong wood such as yew, oak, or walnut. Try to avoid soft woods like pine or balsa. Make sure that the piece is clean, both physically and spiritually.

Make sure you can hold the bowl easily with both hands. It should be quite a bit wider than it is deep. If you want, you can carve Runes into it. You can also place items inside, if you think they will help. Common items include amber, crystals, or small talismans.

You need a safe place to put the bowl. This must be a place where you have ready access, but that it will not be part of your normal, day-to-day life. Other people should not have contact with your Hamingja Bowl. If it can be placed with your other sacred objects, that would be best.

Preparing your Bowl

Preparation is mostly a matter of cleansing and dedicating your bowl. Start on a night with a New Moon. Wash and dry the bowl thoroughly. Don't use your regular towels for this. If the bowl seems to need it, you can apply an appropriate conditioning oil or wax. Try to keep such things natural if you can. This is also when you can carve in any Rues you think are necessary.

Hold the bowl up in both hands while facing north. Say, "I cleanse this bowl of all energies and blights. Let no harmful thing make contact." Repeat this while facing the other directions.

Carefully wrap the bowl in white cloth and place it in a safe place.

Every night until the full moon, take the bowl out of its safe space and clean it. If you cannot get there one night, try to do your best. If you get frustrated or angry over the disruption of your schedule, you will put those negative emotions into your bowl. It is better to let a night or two pass peacefully than to taint the work you have done so far. If you feel that the bowl is not clean enough, you can continue through until another full moon.

Initializing the Bowl

On the night of the full moon, take the bowl to a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Calm your mind with your normal meditation and cleanse your workspace with your usual rituals.

Face toward your altar or to the north. Hold up the bowl with both hands and say, "This vessel is clean and protected. Let no harmful thing come to it."

Lower the bowl to a position in front of you. If you are using an altar, you may place the bowl on the altar. This is the time to add any items that you wish to place inside. The most important and permanent piece should be placed in the center of the bottom.

Close your eyes and meditate to build up your Hamingja. You want to build up as much as you can. When your spirit fire surrounds you, raise the bowl above your head with both hands. Watch as the spirit fire flows up your arms to surround the bowl. Concentrate on your breathing until the energy permeates the material of the bowl.

Lower the bowl to hold it before you. You should see the energy flickering inside the bowl at this point. It may be faint and difficult to pick up on. That is fine.

Carefully move the bowl to your face, or the other way around. Take a deep breath. Blow softly into the bowl. Any energy burning in there will flare a little. Depending on the amount of energy transferred, you may only barely be able to detect that there is anything in there, or the bowl may have a small pillar of Hamingja. Either way is fine; the energy will grow over time.

Maintenance

On a regular schedule, at least once a month, pull out the Hamingja Bowl and blow into it. This breath is necessary to build the strength of the energy. Try not to force things; just let them build at their natural rate. Over time, you will build quite a bit of energy.

How to Use the Bowl

The easy way to use the bowl is when you are low on energy yourself and need a quick top up. Calm your mind, cleanse your space, and uncover your bowl. If you are right handed, hold the bowl in the palm of your right hand and hold your left hand over the bowl with the palm facing toward the interior of the bowl. You will be able to feel the energy flow into your left as you breathe.

The second way to use the bowl is to place an object in it so the object can absorb some of your Hamingja. Exercise caution if you do this; you don't want to taint your energy with a contaminated object.

Say you have friends who are buying a new home and you want to extend your protection to them and their home. You create a small guardian talisman as the focus of that protection. Presumably, the source of your desire to protect them is the fact that you care about them. If you place this talisman into your Hamingja Bowl between workings, it will continue to charge with your energy.

Side Effects

In the same way that items placed in the bowl can absorb the energy there, things in the area of the bowl can become, for lack of a better term, irradiated by the bowl. The other objects stored near the bowl will take on some of the energy there. The container in which these things are stored is susceptible to contamination. If it is all your stuff and you don't mind the energy spillover, then this is not an issue. Of course, Hamingja tuned to you has completely infused the material of the bowl.

The other part of this is that you will someday pass out of this life. Your bowl is less likely to die. It may take some time for the energy in that bowl and its material to dissipate. You may want to make plans to accommodate this stray power source.

There are two good plans for this situation. First, arrange to be buried/burned with the bowl. This takes the bowl out of circulation where it may inadvertently cause problems.

The second plan is to set the bowl in a way that will focus its energies into helping or protecting someone or something you care about. You set up a slow leak by directing some of the energy through some talisman or Runic device. If you pass away, the leak will eventually deplete all of the stored energy.

Conclusion

A Hamingja Bowl can help you build and maintain your spiritual energy, but it takes time and concentration. You must be aware that there are side effects and you must take precautions to deal with them.
